Brittany Edwards Announces Candidacy for Minnesota House

Files to Run for House District 46A—Saint Louis Park, Golden Valley, Plymouth, and Medicine Lake

Medicine Lake, Minn. – Brittany Edwards today announced her candidacy for the Minnesota House of Representatives District 46A, which includes portions of Saint Louis Park, Golden Valley, Plymouth, and all of Medicine Lake. Brittany Edwards is a young professional and advocate with deep roots in the community.

“I am running for the House of Representatives so that I can advocate for the hardworking people of our district at the State Capitol,” Brittany Edwards said. “I believe our government works best when it reflects the values and concerns of the people it serves. Over the coming months, I look forward to meeting with residents across the district to hear how our legislature can better serve the people, families and businesses of this community.”

Edwards has a steadfast commitment to public service. She earned a master of arts in educational administration and a master of public policy from the University of Minnesota, and she completed her bachelor’s degree at Kalamazoo College. From 2005-2006, Edwards served in the Peace Corps in Honduras. In Peace Corps she worked with farm unions on micro-lending, environmental, and health projects, and taught seventh and eighth grade.

Brittany Edwards has dedicated her career to positions in government and the nonprofit sector. Her experience includes positions at Hennepin County, the University of Minnesota, and the Minnesota State Senate. Edwards has also worked with many local organizations as a communications and nonprofit consultant and organizer.

“We must work together to find proactive, innovative and inclusive solutions that reflect the diverse and talented people who live here,” Edwards added. “I am committed to empowering this community and am ready to hit the ground running at the State Capitol. Together, we can protect and strengthen our public schools, and make sure our lakes and trails are enjoyed for generations to come.”

Brittany Edwards grew up in Plymouth, Minnetonka, and South Haven, MN, and lived at and attended the Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley. She got her start in politics at age ten, when she fought to keep local access to a community baseball field. Edwards and her rescue dog, Osa, live in Medicine Lake.

Edwards is seeking the DFL endorsement, should current representative and candidate for lieutenant governor, Peggy Flanagan, not seek reelection. The endorsing convention is currently scheduled for March 11, 2018.
